An assisted living facility is usually the first step when someone needs help with the activities of daily living but wants to remain as independent as possible. Residents in these facilities are usually not able to live on their own but don’t need the more constant care of a nursing home. The residents of a nursing home have more significant difficulties with the activities of daily living and require more skilled nursing care.

Exactly what’s the difference in between a nursing home and an assisted living center? Or are the phrases interchangeable?
